报告人简介：

李增泉是上海财经大学会计学院教授、博士生导师，会计学院副院长。主要研究领域为中国资本市场中的会计和财务问题，研究成果发表在全球顶尖会计学刊物《The Accounting Review》和《经济研究》、《管理世界》、《中国会计与财务研究》等国内权威期刊。李教授同时担任《China Journal of Accounting Research》编委，是《Journal of Banking and Finance》、《Journal of Accounting and Public Policy》、《经济研究》、《会计研究》、《中国会计与财务研究》等专业期刊匿名审稿人。李教授主持了包括国家自然科学基金在内的多项课题。

靳庆鲁是上海财经大学会计学院教授（常任轨），博士生导师。靳教授2005年博士毕业于香港科技大学会计系，研究领域为会计信息、资本市场和公司治理，研究成果发表在全球顶尖会计学刊物《The Accounting Review》和《经济研究》、《经济学季刊》、《中国会计与财务研究》等国内权威期刊等刊物。靳教授主持了包括国家自然科学基金在内的多项课题。

报告摘要：

From the elementary fact that 101 is a sum of 2 squares, we seek a geometrical proof to cover all primes of the form 4n +1. On the other hand, Hilbert proved in 1888 that x4+ y4 +x2 + y2 is sum of 3 squares of polynomials, but nobody could understand his proof. Can we do better than Hilbert now? In this expository talk, we will try to see the notion of sums of squares from many different points of view.
